Inspiration for this is from HMS Cavalier. The only surviving WWII destroyer.
The part of the upper weapons deck was photographed and faithfully reproduced in wood and multi media. So much needs to be done to honour the sacrifice of so many men on these fragile ships. This piece was produced to demonstrate the ongoing repairs and maintenance of the team that keep afloat and alive a 80 year old ship that is a national monument. When launched destroyer losses were so great it had a life expectancy of just months.
An early and most discussed piece that is a fine example of the artists ability to apply media to his work to create the illusion of metals. Painted with authentic paint donated by the restoration team.
